Tree Preservation Orders.

TPO's & Conservation areas are restrictions applied to trees by the local planning authorities through the Town and Country Planning legislation to protect their amenity value in our Towns & Cities. To cut down or prune a TPO tree could result in a heavy fine by your local authority. In some cases fines can be in exces of £20,000

If you have any doubt your tree is covered by TPO or Conservation you can check with one simple phone call to your local planning authority. If your tree is covered, you can apply for a consent form and start the necessary procedure. It's quite a simple process but can take up to six weeks for your decision.

In some cases homeowners desisions are declined as the application is not quite clear on what is to be done. It is more than likely a tree officer will make a visit and make his or her own assesment and give consent on their own recommendations. If you are uncertain of the correct course of action for the tree, the advice of a qualified arborist is worth it as they can advise and make the necessary & appropriate recommendations for the TPO application.
